She laughed softly at his surprise.
"Childhood fantasies rarely conform to reason, and Lions are awesome." she said her laugh fading into a warm smile.
"Auror's are awesome, and you like defense against the dark arts, so that's gotta be something." she rolled her eyes. "Don't be silly, everyone has a kind of desire to do some good in the world, looking after lions in a safari park means they'll be extinct less quickly, and i know they're barely endangered now but they will be one day, it's almost inevitable."
"I'm not clever enough to be a vet, and I'd be too tempted to use magic, how do you explain to a muggle that their cat practically came back from the dead with no operation scars?"

He laughed good naturedly at her observation on childhood dreams. "I suppose you're right. I know when I was little, I wanted to be an astronaut." He grinned. I's heard some boys talking about it in the park. It sounded cool."
He shrugged a little about being an Auror."Yeah I suppose. It is a hard job to get into though. I may have to settle for something less ambitious." He smiled as she gave her excuses about becoming a vet. "Oh I don't know. You can't be so defeatist about things. You don't know what you can do, if you put your mind to it."

"Being an Astronaut would be cool, some Muggles are so lucky." she said truthfully.
"My mother always says that if you aim for the stars even if you miss you'll hit the moon. You might end up teaching Defence against the Dark Arts."
She sighed, she wasn't defeatist, she was realistic, the way her father always was. Her mother was optimistic to the extreme and she was glad she wasn't like that. "I could always work with Magical animals I suppose, Get a job in Diagon Alley, someone's got to right?"

"That sounds like a good plan" He said nodding at her idea about teaching. "I hadn't considered that." He smiled at her and nodded. "See, there is always another option. You could even get at job working in the Ministry, in the care of magical creatures department." He laughed. "Maybe you could teach the subject? Old Professor Kettleburn, must be due for retirement. Either that or he will lose that many limbs, he won't be able to teach anymore."

"This is true, but I think I'd rather work for a smaller business than a big organisation like the Ministry. I like interaction with people, when given the chance, and regularly seeing a more limited clientèle appeals to me more than sorting out new laws and investigating people's homes."
She spoke again in her honest tone, although this time around there was a little more feeling behind her words.

Remus listened to her reasoning, and was surprised by the amount of actual feeling and conviction she intoned, as she spoke. "Well it looks to me like you have found something to work towards now. Something you know you could do, and most of all enjoy doing." He smiled warmly.
"Now we've set the world to rights. What else shall we do?"

Rachel looked at her watch and seeing the time she felt slightly guilty.
"Sorry Remus, I'm going to have to go. I need to write a letter to my Mum. I'll see you around though, it was nice to meet you." She shut the book gently and tucked it under her arm. She then stood, in a not particularly graceful fashion and with a wave walked back up to the castle.

He smiled and nodded. "It's OK I understand." As she shut her book and stood he added. "It was nice meeting you too Rachel." Once she walked off, he waved back, and stayed where he was for a while longer, before heading off back to the common room.
