Sirius smiled at her bird as it flew around them, judging by the sounds it was making and what Simanus said it had clearly had a good meal. "Thanks." he said as he took the paper and scanned the front page, in all honesty he was still a little clueless, but he was sure she only understood it because she had grown up being involved in it. He really wasn't into politics, not in that sense anyway.
He enjoyed the silence of her company as they walked around the lake for a while, thinking that it was nice to meet someone who didn't have to talk all the time, but when she did what she said had purpose. He put the paper inside his robes, deciding to read it later and glanced across at Simanus.
"What are you doing?" he asked wondering how she was getting mist to come out of her wand like that.

They were still relatively close to the lake and she felt an urge to impress; she pointed the wand with off hand-purpose at the nearby surface and a blue bolt of fire shot from its tip into the water, which exploded outward even as it froze. "By keeping what did that in the tip," she said, waiting to hear his reaction before she turned back to him. Her voice became serious as she said, "I'll be able to achieve the full effect once I get my Ghostwood. And if my studies open the right door for me...my Ghostwood will be peerless."

"Now that was awesome." he said staring at the frozen water knowing now what had caused it when he had seen it from across the lake earlier.
"What's Ghostwood? and what are you studying?" he asked curiously, watching as the water slowly sank back into the lake.

"I shouldn't show off with it," she said, "It's dangerous. Ghostwood is a wood, but from a tree that doesn't grow on this side. A muggle gun can only dent ghostwood; I plan to make a wand out of it, traditionally the wood is simply carved into a wand and the properties of the wood are magnification enough. They are given to memebrs of my family when they come of age, I asked for the means to make my own instead. I intend to find the ideal core for a ghostwood wand, wandlore is a study of mine. Don't tell anyone, but I made this," she waggled her wand between her fingers before putting it in her pocket. She kept her original wand in her room in case this one was short-lived, it was her first effort.
Andrew arrived and lighted on her arm; "Go and visit Dumbledore, I will reply later," she told him and then sent him off. "At the end of a long tunnel waits a beast of iron, Mr. Black," she said to him, "it cannot attack until pulled back, what is it?" After a moment she broke into a giggle, "Riddles, my interesting new friend, riddles help us to think around corners. It is a skill you have already shown." The castle was beginning to come in sight, the rest of the walk was up the sloping lawns. "May I be frank for a moment, for the sake of honesty?" she kept walking to indicate it wasn't a delicate issue or likely to become one, "Nothing you need be worried about."

"A muggle what?" asked Sirius, asking the most simple question (or so he hoped) first. Following it up fairly quickly with "You made your own wand? That's awesome!" he said, and then watched as she spoke to her bird.
When she threw the riddle at him suddenly he was so shocked that he missed the first half of it. Riddles? What was this girl on?
"Sorry, I missed that, could you say it again please?"
Sirius looked up the castle almost gload that they were soon going to be back inside it, Simanus was interesting and clever yes, but she was starting to weird him out a bit.
"Erm, sure I suppose, go ahead." he said uncertainly.

She chuckled at his response to her question. 'Twas an unfair riddle to ask," she said simply, "I'll find another for you, the answer to this one is 'a bullet,' which is the projectile a gun fires. As to what I need to be frank about." She turned to face him and took on a gentle tone, Sirius didn't seem the sort, but some folks wanted a measure of delicacy used with such information; "I am what my mother calls a 'wee bit lavender,'" she said, "though you are a perfectly nice young man whose company I am enjoying."
Her declaration done, she resumed her walk toward the castle. A lot of the things he'd learned about her would surely seem strange and so she elected to provide no more; as they got to know each other better, the context would fill itself in. Her oddness of demeanor could also be explained by the strength of her reaction to her news on the tails of one of her insomniac spells.

Sirius frowned, that really was unfair, just cause he was taking muggle studies didn't mean he knew what a gun was yet. Or even what came out of one. When she turned to him and took on a more delicate tone he couldn't help but be slightly confused.
"What in the name of Merlin does that mean?" he called after her 'wee bit lavender' and why did she mention enjoying his company? Did she think he was interested in her? Girls are confusing. he thought exasperatedly, before turning and jogging to catch up with her as she entered the castle. "So, to the kitchens?" he asked politely.

"I think I'll return to my dorm actually," she said, "given the news, I should compose a return letter right away. Perhaps I will see you again soon." She waved and headed off for the dungeons. In all honesty she had been overexcited about her sister's release and wanted to channel her feelings via correspondence. In addition she felt that, her poor choice of riddle aside, she had made sufficient first impression and should let it settle before providing more context.
Her over-eagerness could also be attributed to her admiration for his mischievous penmanship. She would have time to be impressive later if she wanted. She only realized once halfway back to the dungeon common room that he hadn't understood the expression she'd learned from her mother, who's 1940s childhood meant 'gay' was what she called a decorated Yule Tree, and decided he would figure it out on his own. She would have to thank Sayre, his efforts had liberated her sister 29 years early.

Once in the entrance hall Simanus changed her mind and decided to go back to her Dorm and Sirius was left standing in the middle of the entrance hall alone. He decided to go to the kitchens anyway, as he still had a question to ask of the house elves.
