Quiet, serene, calming. The very things that attracted Emmy to the stillness of morning when most people would still be huddled in their beds sleeping. But not little Emmy. She'd always been a morning person, much to the annoyance of her older brother. But as she'd grown she learned to enjoy the solitude over the playtime with her sibling.
The floorboards creaked as Emmy moved about the room. Her brother was in town for a few days and the list of necessary books for the upcoming school year had arrived so they'd agreed to meet in Diagon Alley to catch up. They were spending the week together at the Leaky Cauldron. On with the shorts, tank top, and a sweater; and to complete the look, a good pair of sneakers and her hair tied up in a ponytail.
The alley was nearly empty at this time in the morning, the sun just starting to rise. The young girl exchanged a few 'good mornings' with those that passed her while she stretched her legs. One last stretch, an arch to her back, and Emmy took off jogging. The steady rhythm of her feet on the ground drowned out all other thoughts, letting her sink into herself and just listen to the world around her.

Atticus strolled down Diagon Alley the crisp morning air biting into him he was in his own little world mulling over the past few days in his head from his mothers untimely death at his or his fathers hand, to his high spirited display of magic and dominance.
His head was down looking at the cobbles on the floor, Atticus was wearing a set of what looked like suit trousers a white shirt and skinny green tie over the top he wore some black robes with a silver serpent embroided around the hem they were enchanted so that the snakes would move every now and then
Atticus felt some one knock into him taking him by surprise and nearly knocking him off balance Atticus stumbled a foot backwards but managed to keep himself standing throwing a fowl look round he was ready to give whoever had knocked into him a right earful

Her brother would be waking up now, or starting to. He had a series of waking up and falling back asleep sessions before finally dragging himself out of bed and to the washroom to get ready for the day. It would be another couple of hours before Emmy had to worry about getting back to him.
The air was crisp, still warm from summer but the mornings were growing sharper as each day brought the seasons closer to fall. The air bit at her lungs refreshingly. For a small moment Emmy closed her eyes and felt the air as it filled her chest with each breath.
Her eyes darted open upon impact. In front of her was a boy, older than she but younger than her brother, with a fresh scowl on his face. Fine way to start the day, Emmy. She stumbled for a moment to catch her footing, thrown off by the drop in momentum. "I'm sorry. I didn't see you there." It was a lame excuse, but the only one she had.

Angered surged through him for a second ready to behead whoever had banged into them then he saw that is was a girl that slammed into him proberbly a year or two younger than him
As she apologised Atticus switched on the charm "The blame is equally mine so I too must offer my deepest apologies, how I missed one so strikingly beautiful i dont know" The words rolled off of his tounge like venom from the fangs of a python
Atticus was a firm believer that flatery would get you everywhere which in Atticus's hands and with his finely tuned tounge made it a very powerful weapon
"Another early bird out taking in this lovely brisk?" Atticus inquired still keep a tone like butter wouldn't melt in his mouth

Emmy brushed a hand over her shorts and pulled her sweater down to straighten out her clothes. The hair on her arms prickled with his apology and a small blush rose to her cheeks at the compliment. To cover, she bent down to retie her shoes. She was young still, unused to receiving compliments from anyone other than her family, unsure how to act around boys now that her body was beginning to mature.
When her shoes were tied again and the blush had faded Emmy stood. "Yes, I try to get out early each morning," she responded. Something didn't feel right about this boy. It made her skin prick with a desire to resume her jog and put some distance between them. "If you'll excuse me. I've a run to finish before my brother wakes."

"But how am I sposed to make it up to you for disturbing your morning run" Atticus forced a smile to make him seem like he was just being friendly he had a feeling she was very wary of him but Atticus had cracked harder nut than this in the past and he wasn't going to let this one escape
Keeping the smile he tried to strike up another conversation "You have a brother older or younger? I don't mean to pry I just wondered if i knew him from Hogwarts im a 5th year there. Names Atticus by the way, and you are?"

Emmy shrugged. "You don't have to. A few minutes out of my run won't kill me. But I really should get going again." It wasn't that she was being unfriendly, but more that she was being cautious. She was sure now that something was off about this boy, even if she couldn't put her finger on it. Her eyes scanned over his robes. Green tie, snakes on the robes. Slytherin, most likely. Her uneasiness made sense now; his house had quite the reputation.
"Older. He graduated a couple years back." Emmy switched uncomfortably from foot to foot. She caught her tongue between her teeth, wondering if it would be better simply to give a false name. "Emmy. Emmy Alear." Manners always got in the way.

"Well Nice to meet you Emmy" Atticus looked her up and down as shifted from foot to foot she seemed very uneasy with him maybe Atticus would just have to admit defeat for now
"Well You seem to be anxious to get on so I'll let you" Atticus faked a note of sadness as he said this as if was sad to see her go. Would she take the bait and feel sorry for him or would she leaves
He looked at her she weren't a slytherin Maybe a grythindor or hufflepuff he couldn't place her this made Atticus himself uneasy. He looked down at his robes and saw the silver serpents move round the hem of his robes

He had a saddened note in his voice that made Emmy hesitant to leave. She offered him a small smile as apology as she stepped back, ready to pick up where she'd left off in her run. She would have, had his clothes not moved. Or not his clothes in general but the embroidery on them. She'd seen picture move plenty of times before, but nothing on clothing.
Her eyes traveled up to the boy's face; one eyebrow raised slightly more than the other as she looked at him. Her glace shifted elsewhere, not to be caught staring. They'd collided in front of the Magical Menagerie. "I'll stop for a time. Maybe I'll just," she was speaking seemingly to herself but loud enough that Atticus could hear. "I'll take a look in here." Emmy continued to gaze at the shop's sign as she spoke, her attention moving to the front window. Anywhere but the strange company she'd resolved to be with.

Atticus turned and stood beside her "I saw you looking, at my robes there strange there charmed dont know how they were a present from my father but snakes only move when your not paying attention to them you will always only catch them moving from the corner of your eye"
Atticus looked through the shop windows seeing all manner of animals he stared for a long time at a black raven which perched in its cage looking out at Atticus they shared eye contact like they were comunicating in there mind then the bird turned away

Emmy simply nodded at Atticus' explanation. It seemed rather odd to her, such a simple thing that happened in the muggle world as well. But there it was only an illusion, a trick of the mind; here it was the real deal. It seemed strange that the two worlds lived so closely together yet were so vastly apart from each other. Then again, they'd mingled before. After all, she was half-and-half herself.
Pulling from her thoughts the girl followed Atticus' gaze to the bird. "Seems friendly enough," she muttered. She, however, wasn't interested in owning a bird. Perhaps a cat to curl up in her lap. While her mind protested for a moment, Emmy had dived into the thought of a kitten of her own, and she took hold of her acquaintance's hand to pull him into the shop behind her.

Atticus felt himself pulled into the shop he immediately walked to the raven and was very close to the cage he stared at it looking at its glossy black feathers the bird was surprisingly calm and made no noise
Turning away Atticus walked across to Emmy "So what are you after then" Atticus inquired looking at a kitten that was in a cage nearby

Emmy was taking her time as she made her way over to the cats. That was the problem with being an animal lover; she felt the urge to peek in at every creature she passed, just to give it someone to say hello to or something new to look at for a moment. A caged animal grew bored quickly unless someone was there to brighten the day for it.
"A cat," was Emmy's immediate response. "A calico, maybe. I've always loved the colors of a calico." She turned from the mouse she was looking at to smile at Atticus now that she was more comfortable with him. Maybe it was because of the animals around her, making her feel calmer in their own way, or perhaps it was simply that she was getting used to his company after their unusual meeting.

Atticus looked into one of the cages then over to the witch behind the counter he could here her muttering to another client about the going on down the Alley a few days earlier where some masked bafoons caused mayhem and started fires
"A Calico?" Atticus asked quizically he had never really liked animals and had avoided taking care of magical creatures he wasn't sure if he liked the atmosphere in the shop it was quiet small and claustrophobic and the animal cages gave the place a certain potent smell.

Emmy nodded with a small "mhmm" in response tot he question. Yes, a calico would be perfect for her. They had a beautiful look to them. As the young girl looked around the room at the multitude of pets displayed for the public, her eyes came to rest on Atticus. He didn't seem terribly comfortable in the shop, his eyes dotting back and forth between cages and the woman behind the counter. "What's wrong?" she asked him, taking a small step closer to him to better head in the noisy store.
